I have not personally seen any evidence that sassafrass is the plural of sassafras. The Oxford English dictionary lists sassafrass as an alternate spelling. The entry does not cite any other dictionary or give any quotations to attest this. I will therefore remove the claim. Dfeuer 18:52, 6 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

On further review, I see it's used several places to refer to different species of sassafras, and at least one place to refer to different individual plants, although sassafras certainly seems to be, primarily, an uncountable noun. --Dfeuer 08:10, 7 November 2006 (UTC) (editing my earlier comment)Reply
