Etymology

"New Latin Schva primum [...] in contrast with schwa secundum"
Probably it's spelled identically when contrasted...
Additionally, it could be a non-Latin but pseudo-Latin creation...
As for "Schwa indogermanicum", random google books results mention August Fick's Schwa indogermanicum (in: Beiträge zur Kunde der indogermanischen Sprachen, also known as Bezzenbergers Beiträge, vol. III., ed. by Adalbert Bezzenberger, Göttingen, 1879, p. 157) and one google's text preview contains the statement "dieses 'Schwa indogermanicum' [or "Schwa indogermanicum"], wie zuerst FICK den reduzierten Vokal mit dem Terminus der hebräischen Grammatik nannte" and another "nachdem Fick schon lange (l879) das Schwa indogermanicum in die Germanistik eingeführt hatte". Albeit I can only see google's preview, not a picture or even the whole source, I think the coinage of the term "Schwa indogermanicum" is attributed to Fick. Fick's text I could see, and it is German. "Schwa primum" pobably was based on this and is an even younger term, and probably wasn't formed in Latin but in another language. -01:23, 19 March 2018 (UTC)
