Is scien an etymological intermediary between scion and sciens?
[edit]Any connection between scion and sciens, through scien? — This unsigned comment was added by 173.9.45.237 (talk) at 14:04, 27 May 2009 (UTC).
- Nota scion#Alternative spellings; whereas *(deprecated template usage) sciens is not listed by the OED as an attested variant of scion, the homœographs science, siens, scient, &c. are. Whilst there doesn’t seem to exist a semantic link between English’s (deprecated template usage) scion and Latin’s SCIĒNS, the considerable similarity in pronunciation between (deprecated template usage) science and (deprecated template usage) scion ([ˈsaɪəns] vs. [ˈsaɪən]), probably encouraged the proliferation of the γ-form spelling variants of (deprecated template usage) scion in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. † ﴾(u):Raifʻhār (t):Doremítzwr﴿ 16:19, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
