Not clear on etymology - possible it's a loan. Jeffrey Heath's dictionary for Hombori Sonrai (hmb) has this: "sérémb ò (NF û = sérémbê, DefSg ò)  [n] fonio (cultivated grain)  fonio (cultivé )[id: Digitaria exilis, Poaceae; grown in central Dogon country and in the south] [seremmbe] [cf. gàns ò]." --A12n (talk) 13:18, 22 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
