I added the word tafferel yesterday. Someone edited and cleaned up the formatting. As part of this process, they changed the meaning of the word. I also had a reference from Walden, by Thoreau, documenting the meaning of the word. Its first definition is not a synonym for taffrail. The word taffrail is derived from the word tafferel. Taffrail = Tafferel + rail, and denotes specifically the railing on that part of the ship. In addition, the second meaning for "tafferel" is actually "taffrail", or the railing.

(Probably I should get a good copy of the OED and avoid these online problems.) I will cite the Webster's New World Dictionary, Second College Edition, first copyrighted in 1953. Publisher: The World Publishing Company. Library of Congress Catalog Number: 70-105348.
