Etymology[edit]

@Fay Freak: As you compare it to Alemannic German Talpe (I personally know it under the form Tööpe[1] and chiefly in a derogatory sense for human hands), there's also Talp (final gmh -ə usually becomes gsw -∅ whereas gmh -ən becomes gsw -ə), usually in the plural Tälp(e) meaning footprints[2] (I personally only know it in relation to animal tracks).
