Tarmac is fine, but I saw tarmacing in a national newspaper in September 2005. Apparently someone was putting tarmac upon a road.

Tarmacing? Were it up to me I would spell it tarmacking. Given a choice I would avoid the tense of forming adjectives not derived from verbs (e.g. swashbuckling) [source Collins Concise], and say that he was laying tarmac on a roadway.

It just looks wrong, like it should be pronounced tar maceing.

Am I wrong?? or should it be laying tarmac

Until there's more widespread usage, I don't think "tarmac(k)ing" will meet Wiktionary's criteria for inclusion. --Stranger 14:42, 7 September 2005 (UTC)Reply
