Valid spelling

"Tartaruga marinha" shouldn't be treated as an alternate spelling of "tartaruga-marinha". I think it should be classified as a common misspelling of "tartaruga-marinha". CaiusSPQR (talk) 17:25, 19 August 2018 (UTC)

Not only is tartaruga marinha by far the most common spelling in edited sources, it is also supported by prescriptive entities such as Aulete. — Ungoliant ^(falai) 19:05, 19 August 2018 (UTC)

According to the Base XV of the Portuguese Orthographic Agreement of 1990, the correct spelling should be "tartaruga-marinha", as it is a zoology-based term. This rule already existed before, and it was ratified by the agreement. CaiusSPQR (talk) 19:30, 19 August 2018 (UTC)

The agreement does not say that. “Emprega-se o hífen nas palavras compostas que designam espécies botânicas e zoológicas”; tartaruga marinha does not designate a species, so the rule does not apply to it. — Ungoliant ^(falai) 21:39, 19 August 2018 (UTC)

Even though tartaruga-marinha doesn't designate a species, the rule still applies to the word for the same reason it applies to formiga-branca (meaning "termite"). Termites are classified as part of the Isoptera infraorder or the Termitoidae epifamily (according to Wikipedia). Tartarugas-marinhas, on the other hand, are of the Chelonioidea superfamily.
