transcendentalism[edit]

Belief that deep truths are inaccessible to science, by definition (for reasons metaphysically causal and not practically accessible; due to the nature of the cosmos), and not because of the slow pace of accumulation of knowledge or due to human incompetence.

That's the modern philosophical question. Each society asks the same question but might change some aspects.
