Etymology (English)

[edit]

The etymology says "tush + -ery", but does not specify what meaning of tush. Does anyone know?

  1. elephant tusk
  2. buttocks
  3. nonsense (this would be my guess)
  4. to pull or drag a heavy object
  5. an old British coin

The meaning of the base word would give some insight into the intended meaning of tushery itself. Caesar (talk) 09:46, 10 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

It's this one (an archaic exclamation of contempt or disparagement, often employed in 19th-century historical fiction). Zacwill (talk) 04:10, 22 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
