Talk:when in Rome, do as the Romans do
Although you can find it at some pages on the web, the German translation "Mit den Wölfen heulen" is wrong: It means not to follow your own opinion but to forward the opinion of those who are the loudest or most aggressive. — This unsigned comment was added by 91.96.57.13 (talk) at 11:23, 30 July 2008.
Czech translation Kdo chce s vlky býti, musí s nimi výti.
[edit]The meaning is different. This expresses that if you want to be part of a group, or do something, you have to accept all parts of it - that is even the "bad" things. Whereas the English proverb is more like do things that might be a bit strange for you, but for other people it is fine. So go ahead and try it. Here is more fitting the proverb I've added: Jiný kraj, jiný mrav which expresses exactly that different people do different things and we shouldn't judge them.
