Usage
[edit]This template may be used in "References" and "Further reading" sections, and on talk pages, to cite editions of The American Heritage Dictionary of Idioms.
Parameters
[edit]The template takes the following positional or named parameters:
|1=
or|edition=
– the edition of the Dictionary to be cited.|edition=1
– for the first edition published 1997.|edition=student
– for the 2001 English language learner edition.|edition=2
– for the second edition published 2013.
|2=
or|entry=
– the entry in the Dictionary to be cited. If this parameter is omitted, the template uses the name of the Wiktionary entry.|3=
,|page=
, or|pages=
– the page number(s) on which the entry appears. Use|pages=
if indicating a range of pages, and separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this:|pages=10–11
.|4=
or|pageurl=
– a link to the (first) page on which the entry appears. Meant for the second edition which has two Google Books entries ([1],[2]) with some pages viewable. If the entry is on one of those pages, provide a link to it using this parameter.|5=
,|text=
, or|passage=
– a passage quoted from the Dictionary.|pageref=
- the manually specified page to link to, used when a page does have a normal number, such as those in the preface.|column=
or|columns=
– the column number(s) on which the entry appears. Use|columns=
if indicating a range of columns, and separate the first and last column numbers of the range with an en dash.|nodot=
– by default, the template adds a full stop (period) at the end of the citation. To suppress this punctuation, use|nodot=1
or|nodot=yes
.
