Documentation for Template:RQ:Scott Rob Roy. [edit]
This page contains usage information, categories, interwiki links and other content describing the template.

Usage[edit]

This template may be used on Wiktionary entry pages to quote Walter Scott's work Rob Roy (1st edition, 1817 (indicated as 1818), 3 volumes; and the 1829–1830 edition (also called the "Magnum Opus" edition) with an added introduction, 2 volumes in the Waverley Novels series). It can be used to create a link to online versions of the work at the Internet Archive and Google Books:

Parameters[edit]

The template takes the following parameters:

  • |year=mandatory in some cases: if quoting from the 1829–1830 / "Magnum Opus" edition, either |year=1829 (for volume VII of Waverley Novels) or |year=1830 (for volume VIII of Waverley Novels).
  • |1= or |volume=mandatory in some cases: if quoting from the 1st edition, the volume number quoted from in uppercase Roman numerals, from |volume=I to |volume=III.
  • |no=mandatory in some cases: the appendix of the 1829–1830 / "Magnum Opus" edition has two sections on pages cxxx and cxxxii, hence the template is unable to determine it; specify either |no=III or |no=IV for page cxxx, and |no=IV or |no=V for page cxxxii.
  • |2= or |page=, or |pages=mandatory in some cases: the page or range of pages quoted from. If quoting a range of pages, note the following:
    • Separate the first and last page number of the range with an en dash, like this: |pages=110–111.
    • You must also use |pageref= to indicate the page to be linked to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).
This parameter must be specified to have the template determine the chapter quoted from, and to link to the online version of the work.
  • |3=, |text=, or |passage= – the passage to be quoted.
  • |footer= – a comment on the passage quoted.
  • |brackets= – use |brackets=on to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, “some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell”) rather than an actual use of it (for example, “we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset”), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
  • |termlang= – if using this template in a non-English entry, use this parameter to specify the language of the entry, like this: |termlang=sco (for Scots).
