Usage

This template may be used on Wiktionary entry pages to quote Daniel Defoe's work Jure Divino: A Satyr (1st edition, 1706). It can be used to create a link to an online version of the work at the Internet Archive.

Parameters

The template takes the following parameters:

• |1= or |book= – mandatory in some cases: if quoting from one of the twelve books comprising the work, the book number quoted from in either Arabic or uppercase Roman numerals, from |book=1 to |book=12, or |book=I to |book=XII.
• |chapter= – mandatory in some cases: if quoting from the chapter indicated in the second column of the following table, give the parameter the value indicated in the first column:

|1= or |book=, or |chapter=, must be specified as many of the parts of the work are separately paginated.

• |2= or |page=; or |pages= – mandatory in some cases: the page number(s) quoted from. When quoting a range of pages, note the following:
  • Separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this: |pages=10–11.
  • You must also use |pageref= to specify the page number that the template should link to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).

This parameter must be specified to have the template link to the online version of the work.

• If quoting from the preface, "To the Author", and the introduction, specify the page numbers in lowercase Roman numerals.
• Books I–VI are separately paginated (the page numbers begin from 1 in each book, except in book IV which is numbered as pages 68–93), while books VII–XII are continuously numbered as pages 135–278).
• In book I there are two sets of pages 7 and 8. If quoting a page in the second set, specify it as |page=7A or |page=8A.
• Book II begins with an unnumbered page. Specify it as |page=24.

• |3=, |text=, or |passage= – a passage quoted from the work.
• |footer= – a comment on the passage quoted.
• |brackets= – use |brackets=on to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
