Usage[edit]

This template may be used in Wiktionary entries to format quotations from the series of stories The Haunted House by Charles Dickens and other authors as it was first published in the magazine All The Year Round (1867). It can be used to create a link to an online version of the work at the Internet Archive.

Parameters[edit]

The template takes the following parameters:

  • |1=, |chapter=, or |story=mandatory: the name of the "chapter" or story quoted from, as indicated in the following table:
Parameter value (story) Author First page number
The Mortals in the House Charles Dickens page 1
The Ghost in the Clock Room Hesba Stretton page 8
The Ghost in the Double Room George Augustus Sala page 13
The Ghost in the Picture Room Adelaide Anne Procter page 19
The Ghost in the Cupboard Room Wilkie Collins page 21
The Ghost in Master B's Room Charles Dickens page 27
The Ghost in the Garden Room Elizabeth Gaskell page 31
The Ghost in the Corner Room Charles Dickens page 48
  • |2= or |page=, or |pages=mandatory in some cases: the page or range of pages quoted from. If quoting a range of pages, note the following:
    • Separate the first and last page number of the range with an en dash, like this: |pages=10–11.
    • You must also use |pageref= to indicate the page to be linked to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).
This parameter must be specified for the template to link to the online version of the work.
  • |column= or |columns= – the column number quoted from in Arabic numerals, either |column=1 or |column=2. If quoting from both columns, either omit the parameter or specify |columns=1–2 with an en dash separating the column numbers.
  • |3=, |text=, or |passage= – the passage to be quoted.
  • |footer= – a comment on the passage quoted.
  • |brackets= – use |brackets=on to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
