Usage
[edit]This template may be used to format quotations from Henry Fielding's work The Journal of a Voyage to Lisbon (1st edition and another edition, 1755). It can be used to create links to online versions of the work at Google Books and the Internet Archive:
- 1st edition (1755; archived at the Internet Archive).
- Another edition (1755) – the text differs slightly from the 1st edition.
Parameters
[edit]The template takes the following parameters:
- 1st edition (1755)
|1=
or|page=
, or|pages=
– mandatory in some cases: the page number(s) quoted from in Arabic or lowercase Roman numerals, as the case may be. When quoting a range of pages, note the following:- Separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this:
|pages=10–11
or|pages=x–xi
. - You must also use
|pageref=
to specify the page number that the template should link to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).
- Separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this:
- You must specify this information to have the template link to the online version of the work.
- Another edition (1755)
|edition=
– mandatory: if quoting from the other edition published in the same year as the 1st edition, specify|edition=another
. If this parameter is omitted, the template defaults to the 1st edition.|1=

After page 240, the page numbering repeats from pages 193 to 228; the text is unaffected. If quoting from a repeated page number, add "A" to the end of the number, like this:
|page=193A
.
- Both editions
|chapter=
– the name of the chapter quoted from.- If quoting from the dedication or the preface, specify
|chapter=Dedication
or|chapter=Preface
respectively. - If quoting from the main part of the work, specify the day and date of the journal entry if it can be ascertained; for example,
|chapter=Wednesday, June 26, 1754
.
- If quoting from the dedication or the preface, specify
|section=
– if quoting from "A Fragment of a Comment on L[ord] Bolingbroke's Essays", specify the section number in uppercase Roman numerals.|2=
,|text=
, or|passage=
– the passage to be quoted.|footer=
– a comment on the passage quoted.|brackets=
– use|brackets=on
to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
