According to the 2014 Manwal sa Masinop na Pagsulat by the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino, the particles in Spanish-derived surnames such as de, de la/dela, de las/delas, del, de los/delos should generally not be capitalized (even when such particles are also considered in determining the middle initials in a name), unless at the beginning of the sentence. However, this is not always observed and some people prefer capitalizing them when spelling them. See Appendix:Tagalog spellings#Capitalization.

Used in alternative letter-case forms of Spanish-derived Tagalog surnames with the particles de, dela/de la, delas/de las, del, and delos/de los capitalized, which should be generally in lowercase under spelling rules of the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF, or the Commision on the Philippine Language).
