Template:dercat

From Wiktionary, the free dictionary
Jump to navigation Jump to search

This template can be used to make etymologies more concise and readable by omitting very early steps in the development of a word, while retaining the relevant categorization pertaining to those omitted steps. Usage of the template is optional, and the cutoff point for steps in the history of a word to omit is similarly up to the editor's judgment.

Parameters[edit]

|1=
The language code (see Wiktionary:Languages).
|2=, |3=, and so on
Language codes in the chain of descent.
|inh=
Numbers of steps of inheritance in the chain of descent. Alternatively, you can use the placeholder < between two language codes, in which case any code before will be treated as inheritance and any code after as not.
