This template should be used for all common nouns in Hausa.

Parameters

Main

There are three main positional parameters, two of which are required:

|1= (required)

The noun's gender, which must be one of the following:

• m for masculine
• f for feminine
• p for plural (for nouns that have no singular form)

|2= (required)

The headword, which must be marked for tone and vowel length as described at Wiktionary:Hausa entry guidelines.

|3= (optional)

The plural form of the noun, if present.

Additional

All other parameters are optional and can be used to specify additional forms or suppress automatic generation:

• |f=: Feminine equivalent (for masculine nouns)
• |f2=, |f3=: Additional feminine forms
• |g2=: Alternate gender
• |pl2=, |pl3=: Alternative plural forms
• |pos=: Irregular possessed form
  • Use |pos=- to suppress possessed form generation

Notes

• All forms (headword, plurals, possessed, feminine) must include appropriate diacritics.
• The template automatically generates possessed forms unless suppressed or manually specified.
