This template produces a declension table in accordance with the noun declension guide from the online Passamaquoddy-Maliseet Language Portal and The Passamaquoddy-Maliseet Dictionary‎ (Francis, David A.; Leavitt, Robert R.; Apt, Margaret, 2008) →ISBN.

This template invokes Module:pqm-decl.

Usage

Specify animacy (animate or inanimate) with g or gender. Set g = an for animate nouns and g = in for inanimate nouns. g = an is the default setting and thus need not be set. If a noun has multiple animacies, use this template twice in a row. See akson for reference.

Specify declension type(s) with e or ending. Nouns are categorized by the ending(s) of their plural form(s). Set e = ol if the noun is inanimate and has a plural that ends in -ol. Refer to this chart for more information. If the declension type is -iyik (i), set e = iyik-i, etc. If a word has more than one declension type/plural form, use e2 = ..., e3 = ... and so on. However, these are relatively rare.

According to the noun chart from the Passamaquoddy-Maliseet Language Portal, "the added syllable am, em, im, om, or um in possessed forms is absent or optional in many nouns". Set drop = true to drop this syllable from the possessed form of the noun. See 'tapakon for reference.

Declensions are automatic by default. These automatic inflections were already programmed to abide by the morphophonological rules of the language. If the resulting declensions don't match the forms found in the dictionary, set (for instance) loc.sg = newform to replace the existing locative singular form with newform, pos.pl = newform to replace the possessed plural, etc. Diminutives work differently.

Diminutives in Passamaquoddy-Maliseet may end in -ossis, -is, -uhsis, etc. For this reason, the part of the diminutive singular before -is must be explicitly specified. Take for example the word 'tapakon (“toboggan”). Its diminutive singular ends in -ossis, so set dim = 'tapakonoss or dim = oss to produce the diminutive singular 'tapakonossis and plural 'tapakonossisol. If dim is not specified, it will take the headword or page title as its default value.

Parameters

This template may take the following parameters:

|1=, |h=, |head=

The headword. Takes the name of the page if left blank.

|g=, |gender=

The animacy of the noun. Use in / inanimate for inanimate nouns and an / animate for animate nouns. Automatically assigned based on the last letter of ending.

|e=, |ending=, |e2=, |e3= and so on

The declension type(s) of the noun. Set to p to specify a noun participle. Use iyik-i, etc. for -iyik (i) and other declension types with parentheses.

|m=, |mode=

Set to mini to only show the singular and plural unmarked forms. Set to full to show the absentative and obviative forms. Set to miniloc or l to only show the unmarked and locative forms. Set to minilocdim or ld to only show the unmarked, locative and diminutive forms.

|auto=

Set to false to disable automatic declensions. If so, declensions have to be set manually using pl = something, loc.sg = something, (if there are multiple plural forms) pl2 = something, (if there are multiple locative singular forms) loc.sg2 = something and so on.

|dim=, |dim2=, |dim3= and so on

Read the usage notes. Specifies the part of the diminutive singular before the -is ending. Takes the headword if left unspecified. Use shorthand oss, uhs, s, ehs, es or ahs if the part that precedes them is the same as the headword.

|drop=

Read the usage notes. Set to true to drop the medial -am-, -em-, -im-, -om- or -um- (depending on declension type) from the possessed form.

|add=, |add2=, |add2= and so on

Additional roots or "headwords" for automatic noun declension.

|pl=, |pl2= and so on, |loc.sg=, |loc.sg2= and so on, etc.

Overrides the corresponding form(s). Set to d to disable them. Abbreviations are found at Module:pqm-decl.
