Link to search[edit]

Would it not be nice if one could specify a parameter so this template would link directly to a search results page in WikiCommons, by default the article title, optionally the display, or perhaps a third parameter? The default result now at best takes another click and may discourage clickthrough altogether. DCDuring TALK 16:52, 16 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Category[edit]

Increasingly commons items are usefully organized in categories. "cat=1" should generate a link to the category without requiring one to type "Category:[pagename]". DCDuring TALK 20:13, 9 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Prefix parameter[edit]

The |prefix= parameter was set to |prefix=commons, and I found that it did not work at travois because the Commons:travois page does not exist. As suggested by the above, the "Commons:Category" pages are much more likely to exist. I tried to use the {{#ifexist:}} function, but it didn't work – links such as the one at abele#Further reading went to the category page and not to the non-category page as it should have. So I self-reverted and set the parameter to |prefix=commons:category, which appears to work well. When non-category pages do exist at Commons, they are usually linked to on the category pages. Hopefully, this fixes the problems that were had in the past with this template.  Paine Ellsworth  put'r there  11:00, 20 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
