Overrides don't work as documented.[edit]

On the page Illiturgi, in the ‘References’ section, I managed to fix the link to the lemma ‘ILLITURGIS’ in William Smith's Dictionary of Greek and Roman Geography, but found that the first template parameter does nothing, while the second template parameter functions according to the documentation for the first parameter.

The reference was specified as

  • Illiturgs”, in William Smith, editor (1854, 1857), A Dictionary of Greek and Roman Geography, volume 1 & 2, London: Walton and Maberly,

with the first template parameter misspelled as ‘Illiturgs’ and ignored, with a dead link to http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/text?doc=Perseus:text:1999.04.0064:entry=illiturgi-geo

The corrected lemma spelling ‘Illiturgis’

  • Illiturgis”, in William Smith, editor (1854, 1857), A Dictionary of Greek and Roman Geography, volume 1 & 2, London: Walton and Maberly

is likewise ignored, with the same dead link to http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/text?doc=Perseus:text:1999.04.0064:entry=illiturgi-geo

Adding the second template parameter as

  • {{R:Smith's Geography|Illiturgis|illiturgis-geo}

yields the dead link http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/text?doc=Perseus:text:1999.04.0064:entry=illiturgi-geo-geo

Thus

  • Illiturgis”, in William Smith, editor (1854, 1857), A Dictionary of Greek and Roman Geography, volume 1 & 2, London: Walton and Maberly

creates the correct link to http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/text?doc=Perseus:text:1999.04.0064:entry=illiturgis-geo AndreasWittenstein (talk) 14:34, 24 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
