Past tense - removed अ from template[edit]

Earlier while creating this template, I had added "अ" before every term in case of past tense (imperfective), as anyone with the knowledge of Sanskrit will know that that is the rule of forming past tense verb forms, i.e prefixing the stem with "अ". This worked fine in conjugating verbs, except in case where the verb began with a vowel. In such cases, due to rule of Sandhi, every time the template conjugated the word wrongly and thus, every time all the 27 terms of the three voices had to be added manually using paramter nametag.

To overcome this, I have removed अ from the template code, and reassigned the parameter numbers for past tense (imperfective) as 3 for active voice and middle voice, and 4 for passive voice. This has drastically reduced the need to manually add conjugated words of verbs beginning with vowel. --JainismWikipedian (talk) 20:08, 10 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

{{{3}}} and {{{4}}} are deduced when at least one is absent, as "अ" following {{{1}}} and {{{2}}}. 2001:250:3C00:3443:6D2F:632A:42C4:D980 09:13, 30 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Future tense - modifying traditional endings[edit]

Similar to the logic given by me in the previous section of Past tense on this talk page, I am removing the traditional endings of future tense, for example, इष्यति, etc. and modifying them as ति, etc. This is because of following reasons:

  1. Future verb forms have different endings based on the hardness or softness of the letters, for example, ष्यति or स्यति
  2. Future verb forms have different endings based on the verb itself, for example, अर्क्ष्यति in case of the verb अर्चति.

Thus, to overcome this problem and to avoid manual addition of conjugated terms each time a verb behaves irregularly, I have decided to modify the endings to ति, etc. and reassign the parameters as number 5 for both, active voice and middle voice. This will help in the following manner, for example:

  1. for verb अर्चति, I will just have to add a parameter 5=अर्क्ष्य
  2. for verb गच्छति, I will just have to add a parameter 5=गमिष्य

And all the conjugations of future tense will work perfectly. Thus, no need for any more manual addition, at least for future tense verb forms. --JainismWikipedian (talk) 20:20, 10 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
