Dialectal notation

Case 1

For a word which in one dialect, replaces the corresponding word used in the Standard dialect.

Example 1:

Lua error in Module:inc-headword at line 286: Parameter "g" has been replaced by 1.

(Doabi) Substitute of گنڈھا (gaṉḍhā)

Example 2:

ਵੰਞਣਾ • (vãñṇā) (Shahmukhi spelling ونجݨا)

(Jhangli) Substitute of ਜਾਣਾ (jāṇā)

I have used "substitute" here instead of other terms like "dialectal synonym".

Tagging it as a "synonym" does not clarify that the word is used in place of the Standard one (i.e. that the Standard word is not used in the dialect). One may mistakenly interpret it as a dialect having synonym of a Standard word which is also used in said dialect. Thus, I used the term "substitute".

These variants could still be put under a "dialectal synonyms" heading, as they are still synonyms of the original word.

Some other possible examples:

Dhanni for ਜਾਣਾ (jāṇā)
(Dhanni) ਜਾਣਾ (jāṇā)

Case 2

For a word which is unique to a dialect and does not replace a Standard word. This is the simplest case and can just take the dialect label with the definition.

Example:

ਡਹਿਣਾ • (ḍahiṇā) (Shahmukhi spelling ڈہݨا)

(Majhi) to start, go, run, operate
