User:Scio~enwiktionary/Tolkienian Latin Lexicon
This page is a lexicon (in progress) of all occurring Tokienian words in The Lord of the Rings, which I am translating to Latin, with the help of other wiktionarians. I am doing this primarily to learn Latin, not to publish a book; I have only studied Latin for about two months now. Here is the lexicon:
Baggins
[edit]Nomen.
Meant, like Sackville, to mean bag. Since saccus is perfect for Sackville, we need another word, for example:
Bilbo
[edit]Praenomen. Bilbo's official Roman name for records would be (based on his family tree) Bilbo Pera Bungonis f. Mungonis n. tribu Andivinia, domo Scira.
Brandywine
[edit]To be translated as any reasonable corruption of Baránduin. So, Parandivinum (men preparing wine).
Hobbit
[edit]Not to be translated.
Sackville
[edit]Nomen. Meant to mean sack.
Westmarch
[edit]Means Western Borderland = Marchia Occidentalis. See, for example, Marchia Orientalis.
