Hello! I’m a bird nerd, the bird nerd, but that username was taken, so I’m thebirdnird. Languages are my interest and I made this account to contribute to wiktionary and hopefully spread knowledge relating to languages. I specifically love the study of etymology, which is why a lot of my edits relate to borrowed, compound, and related words. I’m a native speaker of Australian English, but the amount of people I’ve met has pretty much bastardised my vocabulary a bit. British English is the closest dialect my vocabulary is similar to, but a lot of American words have slipped through the cracks.

On the topic of languages, I know more than just English! I studied Italian for four years and now can write and speak in it fluent, though memorising some specific words is something I need to improve on. Interlingua is something I’m great at, as it contains many words from different languages. Growing up in a diverse community with Italian relatives has basically made constructing interlingua sentences something I can do without thinking. I’ve been able to do this since I was young, so I think that either makes me a native or near native speaker.

I can comprehend many other languages, too, like Hebrew. As of 2023, I will begin taking German classes, and may improve in that aspect too.
