Welcome to my userpage!

My name is Tomáš and I am from Slovakia. I am of Slovak and Hungarian descent and am currently based in Czechia. I hold a BA in Philology (German and Latin) and am currently pursuing a Master's degree focused on language pedagogy for these two subjects.

Contributions

[edit]

I primarily contribute to Slovak entries, as it is my dominant native language and there is still significant work to be done. While I initially attempted to contribute to the Slovak Wiktionary, I found the environment there somewhat restrictive and resistant to the innovative approaches and automation that help a project thrive. By contrast, I've found the English Wiktionary to be far more open to modernization, which makes expanding the dictionary a much smoother process.

Technical Work

[edit]

I have been programming for many years and enjoy applying those skills here. I've contributed a few modules and templates to help automate Slovak grammar, including: {{sk-conj}} (mod:sk-verb), {{sk-ndecl}} (mod:sk-noun).

My language background

[edit]

I was raised bilingual, so my native languages are Slovak and Hungarian. However, I must regretfully admit that I haven't really developed my Hungarian since childhood and I primarily speak a very strong local dialect.

I received my entire education up until high school in Slovak. As part of the mandatory curriculum, I also studied English and German in primary school and high school. Outside of school, I was heavily involved with Latin in my free time, and I tried learning French many times—though unfortunately without much success.

Ultimately, I chose to study Philology in Brno, Czechia, majoring in German with a minor in Latin. I earned my Bachelor's degree in 2025 and decided to continue into a Master's program for language didactics, though I am still considering further linguistic studies in the future.
