1) The preferred Eastern Slavic Russian way of spelling mail is майл or "mail" and not мейл. This is a south Slavic Bulgarian way to spell mail. Just look at the keywords for the top web mail site in Russia.

Mail.Ru (http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/mail.ru) Keyword Percent of Search Traffic

 1. mail 4.25%
 2. mail.ru 3.68%
 3. майл 1.41%
 4. мой мир 1.11%
 5. маил 0.99%

The fact the my input is not only 1st "майл"(mayl), but is the only version other in the top 5 shows it's the preferred eastern slavic based way to spell mail and the "мейл" is a east slavic non russian way of spelling things. Even the source for ""мейл" is a joke "<ref>[http://pda.gramota.ru/?action=buro&s=195511)"

2) As for transliteration in regards to the letter "e" in front of the mail only the matching e use word the word electronic should be used(электронка). In languages like Bulgarian there s no diffencce, but for Russian the little adds a y in front "емейл"(yemeyl) vs my "эмайл"(emayl) ~~~~
