@Fenakhay I'm pretty certain that dudu and duda are only alternative forms, not "masculine worm" versus "feminine worm". (How would you even know the gender of a worm.) Compare bżar, which I added today, where the singulative is "bżaru" or "bżara". But etymologically I think you're right that this -u as a singulative marker must be from the Sicilian masculine ending (by anology with -a).
