first 2 translation of canis pugnax are not exact because in latin, pugnax is not referred to war, but is referred to a kind of temperament. in latin, war is "bellum": dog of war, in latin, should be "canis belli", not "canis pugnax".

the only right translation is "fighting dog", that referrers to some typical "pugnax" temperament (ie: quarrelsome nature of some dogs)
