perky[edit]

Sarcastic or ironic uses of words do not get separate definitions. The same sentence you used for perky could be said with happy, cheerful, optimistic, and many other words. It is not a separate definition. --EncycloPetey 18:28, 21 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Your concerns are valid, but they do not lead to another definition. This is a matter of English prose style (irony, sarcasm), and not a matter of the word having another definition. We decided some time ago as a community that ironic and sarcastic uses do not merit additional definitions because almost every English adjective can be used this way. --EncycloPetey 04:52, 24 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
I believe that the sense I tried to add for the word perky falls firmly within the realm of meaning of the word and not simply that of tone of voice of the speaker. More details at User_talk:EncycloPetey --Krnntp 08:10, 24 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
The best place to pursue this issue (even using the comments you've made already) would be the Tea Room. That's our discussion forum for meanings, etymologyies, and usage. As I say, this looks like ironic/sarcastic use to me, which we don;t include. However, other folks here may agree with you that it should be included. The Tea Room will give them a chance to weigh in on the matter. --EncycloPetey 15:34, 24 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
