North Frisian
[edit]Alternative forms
[edit]- wurd (Föhr-Amrum), uurd (Mooring), Wür (Heligoland)
Etymology
[edit]From Old Frisian word, from Proto-Germanic *wurdą. Cognates include West Frisian wurd. For the sporadic loss of w- before a back vowel compare uur (“to become”) and uuni (“to dwell”), in both of which cases Danish influence is ruled out.
Pronunciation
[edit]Noun
