Mentionings[edit]

WT:CFI: "the community of editors for that language should maintain a list of materials deemed appropriate as the only sources for entries based on a single mention"
So how about adding the sources below to that list which can be found at WT:About Norn (the page doesn't exist, which means there currently is no entry in that list)?

  • George Low (manuscript from 1774), in:
    • History of the Orkney Islands. Including a View of [...]. By the late Rev. Dr. Barry. The second Edition, with Corrections and Additions by the Rev. James Headrick. London, 1808
    • A tour through the islands of Orkney and Schetland   containing hints relative to their ancient modern and natural history collected in 1774   By George Low with illustrations from drawings by the author   and with an introduction By Joseph Anderson. Kirkwall, 1879

George Low has a short word list (ca. 30 words), and it's printed in the two books. However, the two books sometimes have different spellings and not only because one (from 1808) uses long s and the other (from 1879) doesn't, e.g. the older one has "The sea, Sheng.", "A shoe, Scugin." and the younger one "The Sea, ... ... Sheug.", "A Shoe, ... ... Seugin." (bolding added).
Marius Hægstad, Hildinakvadet med utgreiding um det norske maal paa Shetland i eldre tid av Marius Hægstad (1900; in Skrifter utgivne af Videnskabsselskabet i Christiania 1900. II. Historisk-filosofisk Klasse. Udgivet for Hans A. Benneches Fond. Christiania, 1901) does even mention three sources: "Barry (B), Anderson (A) og Jakobsen (J)", and gives them all, examples: "An Island Heon2." and "2Hion B, A; Heon J", "The Sea Sheug3." and "3Sheng B", "A Shoe Scugin10." and "10Seugin A; Scugin BJ". -84.161.45.112 05:20, 16 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
