<ppfk> I must say I pretty much agree with everything expressed with Jun-Dai in this Talk Page. In fact, I'm a user of the Spanish wikipedia and I have taken advantage of the lack of official policies there to create several translation pages. Let me explain my line of thinking taking the word weigh from above:
- IMHO, there should be an entry for this word (say weigh) with the definition in english only.
- Then, a different entry like weigh_(en-fr) with all possible translations into french with detailed information for each word (pronunciation, part of speech, gender) and a note of usage when needed.
- And last, another different entry like lever_(fr-en) with all possible translations into english and the same information as above.
This way, one of the key advantages that I perceive is that the bilingual Wiktionary pages (denoted by _(xx-yy)) can be linked between the xx: and yy: Wiktionaries without involving any third language, providing much better oportunity for a user knowing both languages to review/edit the information without getting lost in 3rd, 4th, nth languages.
I know if this ever bacame a policy would mean extensive work in this Wiktionary, but I believe that the advantages of this kind of system are worth the effort. </ppfk datetime = "august 12, 2005 17:16 UTC">
