Middle French

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

From Old French achoison, achaison, ochoison, from Latin occasiō, occasiōnem, with the initial -a- due to influence from accusatiō (the Old French word in many cases having the sense of "accusation"); an alternative etymology is that it is a calque of Latin occasiō using achoir.
