[edit]Derived from English arcana (“specialized knowledge that is mysterious to the uninitiated”) in fantasy nomenclature, but also shaped via language pattern of the fore element as an adjective akin to English arcane in “arcane magic” (Swedish arkanmagi): arkan (adjective) + -a (turns adjectives into nouns that describe possessing this characteristic).
Cognate with Swedish arkanum (“secret thing, secret, mystery”), old plural arkana.
