Etymology
From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *h₂ew-m-, a derivation of *h₂ew- (“to see, perceive”). Cognate with Old Church Slavonic оумъ (umŭ, “mind”) and indirectly Ancient Greek αἰσθάνομαι (aisthánomai, “to perceive”), Sanskrit आविस् (āvís, “openly, manifestly, evidently”), Latin audiō, and Hittite 𒌋𒀪𒄭 (u-uḫ-ḫi, “I see”).
