Galician

bídalos, Abadín, Galicia

Alternative forms

Etymology

Probably from bídaro, from Lua error in Module:parameters at line 290: Parameter 2 should be a valid language, etymology language or family code; the value "qfa-sub-ibe" is not valid. See WT:LOL, WT:LOL/E and WT:LOF., ultimately from Proto-Celtic *betu- (birch), from Proto-Indo-European *gʷet- (resin, pitch).[1][2] The tonic i can be due to the influence of Germanic forms (cf. English birch) during the early Middle Ages.[3]

Cognate with French bouleau. Compare also the Galician Celtism berro < *berŭro-, French berle < *berŭla. Synonymous with bido, bedulo, and bidueiro.
