From boatsi or from a Vulgar Latin root *vōcescō, *vōcīre, from *vōceō, *vōceāre, from Latin vōx, possibly influenced by vāgiō. Compare Romanian boci, bocesc; cf. also Italian bociare, Spanish vocear.
