Noun

[edit]

canti firmi

  1. (nonstandard) plural of cantus firmus

Usage notes

[edit]

Originates from an erroneous assumption that cantus should be pluralized, like firmus, in the manner of the Latin second declension. The Latin noun cantus is in fact a member of the fourth declension, so its plural is also cantus.
