From Ukrainian черешня (čerešnja), from Proto-Slavic *čeršьňa, from Germanic, from Vulgar Latin ceresia, from Latin cerasium, from Ancient Greek κεράσιον (kerásion). Displaced Old Polish czrześnia (still found in dialects: trześnia).
