Etymology

From Proto-Turkic *dẹ̄l(b)ü- (mad, stupid)[1]. Cognate with Turkish deli, Uzbek telba, Turkmen däli and telbe, Tatar тилбә (tilbä, foolish person), Chuvash тилӗр (tilĕr, become enraged) etc.
