From Ottoman Turkish تیمورجی (demirci, iron dealer, blacksmith), [script needed] (demürci) from Proto-Turkic *temürči (blacksmith), equivalent to demir (iron) +‎ -ci. Cognate with Old Uyghur [script needed] (temirči, blacksmith), Karakhanid [script needed] (temürči, blacksmith), Mongolian ᠲᠡᠮᠦᠵᠢᠨ (temüǰin), name given to Genghis Khan at birth.
