Welsh[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Celtic *dī- (clothes, clothing). Cognate with Cornish dillas, Breton dilhad.

This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.
Particularly: “GPC doesn't give an etymology. Perhaps a derivative of Proto-Indo-European *dʰeh₁- (to put, place), as clothes are things that one puts on their body?”

Pronunciation[edit]
