Usage notes

No longer in use, and may not be understood. Finland officially switched to a 24-hour clock in 1928, though the 12-hour clock remains in use in spoken language. To avoid possible ambiguity, one typically specifies the general time of day (evening, early morning etc.). For example, instead of "kello 3 ennen puoltapäivää", one would typically say "kello 3 aamuyöstä" ("at 3 o'clock in the early morning").
