From Middle Welsh elusen, from Proto-Brythonic *elβ̃ʉsen, from Vulgar Latin *alēmosyna, from Latin eleēmosyna, from Ancient Greek ἐλεημοσύνη (eleēmosúnē)[1] (whence also English alms).
