eriçó
Catalan
Etymology
From a variant of Lua error in Module:etymology at line 156: Old Occitan (pro) is not set as an ancestor of Catalan (ca) in Module:languages/data/2. The ancestor of Catalan is Old Catalan (roa-oca)., from Vulgar Latin *ērīciō, ērīciōnem, from Latin ēricius, from Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰḗr (“to bristle”). Compare Occitan eriçon, French hérisson, Romansch erizun. Alternatively, from an earlier form *eriç (compare Occitan eriç, Old Occitan aritz, Italian riccio, Spanish erizo), later suffixed with -ó, from Latin -ōnem.
