From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Middle High German erlouben, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old High German irlouben, arlouben, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Germanic *uzlaubijaną. Cognate with Old English ālīefan, ālȳfan (to allow). More at leave (permission).
