Turkish[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Ottoman Turkish اسهام (esham), presuming a plural ***أَسْهَام (***ʔashām) of Arabic سَهْم (sahm), while in Arabic one uses, oddly contrary to this, the plural أَسْهُم (ʔashum) for “shares, stocks”, else verbal noun of form IV إِسْهَام (ʔishām, to give a share in).

Noun[edit]

esham (definite accusative eshamı, plural eshamlar)

  1. (finance) share
  2. (historical) annuities sold by the Ottoman treasury
