[edit]Inherited from Ottoman Turkish اوصاف (evṣāf, “qualities, properties, attributes, adjectives”),[1] plural of وصف (vaṣf, “a quality”), from Arabic وَصْف (waṣf, “description, quality, virtue”), verbal noun of وَصَفَ (waṣafa, “to describe, to depict”).[2]
